The Gay and Lesbian Community Center (GLCC) and Lavender Events Present Check for Breast Cancer Research
Lavender Events Raises $1,000 for the
Memorial Cancer Institute-Breast Cancer Center
On June 24, 2009, Paul Hyman, Executive Director of the GLCC and Wendy Phillips, Chairperson of Lavender Events presented a $1,000 check to the Memorial Foundation/Breast Cancer Fund at Memorial Cancer Institute-Breast Cancer Center in Hollywood, Florida.
Accepting the check on behalf of Memorial were Drs. Alejandra Perez, Sandra Franco, Carmen Calfa, Aruna Mani and Raja Mudad.
The funds were raised in September of 2008 at a dance at the GLCC, sponsored by Lavender Events - Stella’s Ball. The annual dance honors “Stella” a mother, daughter, partner and community member who lost her battle with breast cancer. The purpose of Stella’s Ball is to raise awareness of breast cancer in the community and promote treatment to women with limited medical access.
The second annual Stella’s Ball will be held November 7th at the new GLCC campus in Wilton Manors.
According to Paul Hyman, “The GLCC is committed to supporting all efforts to fund research and treatment for breast cancer. And our own Lavender Events has taken this effort to a new level and we are very proud of them”.
