18th Annual Wine, Spirits and Culinary Celebration at Museum of Discovery and Science on April 5, 2013
The Museum of Discovery and Science will host its 18th Annual Wine, Spirits and Culinary Celebration on Friday, April 5, 2013. The event is presented by Bank of America and all proceeds benefit the Museum.
Last year’s Wine, Spirits and Culinary Celebration set an attendance record, with over 2,000 guests. It was the first year that spirits and craft beers were introduced, with the benefit of additional space provided by the Museum’s recent expansion. This year’s event will seek to top that record, showcasing a sequence of champagne, spirits or wine with food pairings, each bound to delight, educate and entertain guests and their palates. The highlights of the evening are tastings from nearly 50 of South Florida’s leading restaurants, and a vast array of wines and spirits from around the world, courtesy of beverage sponsor Southern Wine and Spirits. Guests will also have an opportunity to bid on some amazing silent auction prizes. Each guest also receives a complimentary Reidel wine glass.
The evening will start off with an exclusive VIP Martini Reception from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. VIP guests will enjoy a champagne tasting with “Champagne Wayne” paired with a culinary demonstration featuring a well-known chef. The VIP evening concludes with exclusive access to the ultra chic Hilton Fort Lauderdale VIP Lounge to eat, drink and dance under the stars from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Doors open for VIP admission at 6:00 p.m. and to general admission at 7:30 p.m. VIP tickets are $150 per person and general admission tickets are $85 per person. Presale tickets are available at a reduced rate until March 1, 2013 with VIP tickets reduced to $135 per person and general admission tickets reduced to $75 per person. DISCOVERY CAMP ADVENTURES
For ages 6-12
Day Camps are designed to give students entire days filled with exploration and hands-on learning. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (before and after care is available). Camp fee includes all workshop materials and chaperoned exhibit exploration. Students should bring two snacks, lunch and a drink. Subway Café is available as a lunch option. One-day camps are $50 for MODS members and $55 for non-members.

raises nearly $110, 000 to support the
Museum of Discovery and Science
Fort Lauderdale, FL — The 15th Annual Wine & Culinary Celebration was held at the Museum of Discovery and Science on April 16, 2010 and raised nearly $110,000.00 to benefit the Museum. Chaired by Kerry Ferguson and Marjie Wilson this amazing event was a resounding success. Over 1,200 guests enjoyed tantalizing cuisine, music and a bountiful silent auction. This event was made possible by Bank of America. The exclusive beverage sponsor was Southern Wine and Spirits, Print Dynamics was the printing sponsor and media partners included Gold Coast Magazine and Lite 101.5. The elegant VIP Lounge was sponsored by Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort.
This year’s 2010 event featured a progressive sequence of wine and food pairings selected to delight, educate and entertain guests. Over 30 of South Florida’s top restaurants and chefs were represented, as well as nearly 200 wines from around the world. A new addition to this year’s event was the spectacular Chef Spotlight. Chef Paula DaSilva of 3030 Ocean, Chef Sean McDonald of ilios @ Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort and Chef Johnny Vinczencz of Johnny V’s gave enticing cooking demonstrations on stage in front of enthusiastic guests.
VIP guests started the evening off with a private Martini Reception and a wine tasting led by certified wine specialist and Sommelier, Sandra Wauquier. Then it was off to the Grand Tasting where executive chefs served up their best, each competing for the People’s Choice Award. This year’s winner was Café Maxx with their yellowfin tuna sashimi pizza. Also a crowd favorite, Vienna Cafe earned their spot as the 1st Runner Up, with YOLO Restaurant just a few votes behind in the 2nd runner up position.

After the Grand Tasting, VIP guests made their way to the Museum’s Grand Atrium where the chic Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort VIP Lounge was located. Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort provided VIP guests with their signature Slider Action Station, with Crab, Meatball and BBQ Chicken Sliders.
For those who desired something sweet, individual sabayon dessert spoons with guests’ choice of fresh berries were bruléed to order. In addition to a wine bar, a specialty cocktail station featured Caipirinhas, a Brazilian specialty made with Leblon Cachaça, muddled limes, simple syrup and soda. VIP guests danced to the sounds provided by DJ Fabian Giannattasio, a regular on the South Beach club circuit. The VIP Lounge experience is an expression of Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort’s signature, personalized service.

The event also featured a silent auction and a complimentary Riedel wine glass for every guest.

The mission of the Museum of Discovery and Science is to provide experiential pathways to lifelong learning in science for children and adults through exhibits, programs and films. Founded in 1976 as The Discovery Center, the nonprofit facility serves approximately 400,000 visitors each year.
